I'm not ssure about what you tried, but your installation seems
incomplete.
Did you run the 
mysql_install_db --user=mysql --basedir=/usr --datadir=/var/lib/mysql
before starting it?

Did you follow the installation instructions there
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/MySQL ?
If not, you should start there maybe :)
