Thanks to Kurt for explaining to me the weird and unfortunate workings of 
hwclock!

Kurt, could you squash your two commits, and create a new one with the "UTC as 
default" setting (or drop the UTC stuff alltogether if you prefer, and I'll 
make a patch when I have time).

If there are no more objections within a few days I'll apply this.
