You should _really_ talk to xterminus/charles about this.  He's quite the 
perl man as well, and I think you know that.  Though I haven't seen him 
around in a while, I can send you his IM info so you can ping him.

I think it's a fine idea, the only problem is obviously we could probably 
get stuck where we don't have enough money to send everyone... how do we 
split? Do we pay for people with less money? Or do we give everyone equal 
amounts?

The exact usage of the money, no matter how much is donated, would need to 
be documented ahead of time.

PS: find me a cheap flight to chicago from roanoke, and I'll come visit.
